Winner of Coffee Shop of the Year at The Menu Awards. Nestled in the arty array of buildings at Cairn O Mohr fruit wines (see separate entry) is this lovely café bistro, home to Ali and Bob, passionate about local produce and Slow Food supporters. We had a beautiful meal here when they hosted the Slow Food Ark evening for the local SF Convivium. They have a sunny deck, a glazed verandah for windy days and a bonnie cafe with natural woods and beams.
Everything is cooked fresh daily from local suppliers, with eggs from the neighbour and even their coffee is roasted nearby in Dundee. They are well known for their daily soups such as sweet potato, black bean & ginger or tomato, red pepper & parmesan, served with local bloomer sandwiches and delicious home baking. Ali’s gluten free cheesecakes and desserts are hugely popular and her scones are award-winning and delicious. She is also a whizz with what she calls her vegetable cakes using carrots, courgettes, pumpkin etc in season – moist and so tasty! This salted caramel, apple and apple cider cake pictured is sensational.
No wonder they have been called ‘a little bit of paradise in the middle of Perthshire’ and won Thistle Award Best Informal Eating Experience for the region 2017. Also Winners of Scottish Baking Award 2015 & 2016 and Members of Slow Food Chef Alliance.
Here is Ali demonstrating at Royal Highland Show 2018.
