  • The Crinan Hotel is a really special place. Located at the northward end of the Crinan Canal and famous for being ‘magnificently eccentric’ with exceptional food! Home to the Ryan family for over 40 years, all 20 bedrooms have breath-taking views. If only the walls could talk, there have been some pretty famous visitors here over the years! Talking of walls, Frances is a gifted artist too so many of her works adorn the walls and are regularly exhibited.

The Westward Restaurant (Michelin Recommended in 2018) serves fine and exciting fare. The Crinan Seafood Bar (Trip Advisor certificate of Excellence) is deliciously more informal. Their catch of the day is landed by their own fishing boat 50 metres from the kitchen – beat that for food miles!!

The proprietors Frances & Nick Ryan have been welcoming guests to this picturesque backwater for over 45 years. Sadly Nick died in April this year (2018) but it is business as usual and Frances and the rest of the team at the Crinan Hotel are building on Nick’s legacy of excellent hospitality and attention to detail.

There has been an Inn at Crinan since the Canal was built close on 200 years ago and the pub at the Hotel has been the meeting place for generations of local families and fishermen and visiting yachts. The Hotel has a choice of several places to eat. The Westward Restaurant offers fine views and is just the place for a relaxing evening meal. Enjoy the sunset with a five-course menu and coffee. The Seafood Bar has an ‘a la carte’ menu and is perfect for lunch or dinner and the same menu is available in the informal General’s Bar just next door. On a fine day you can enjoy lunch outside overlooking the canal. At the weekends from June to September you can book a table in Lock 16, their Seafood Restaurant enclosed on the roof of the hotel. Looking west you can see the sun set over the Corryvreckan, Jura and Scarba.

Did you know the Crinan Hotel can organise boat trips for you? Check it out on their website.  If you book to stay in the Crinan Hotel using one of their Dinner, Bed & Breakfast packages this includes dinner in the Westward Restaurant.
