Eleanor has created a sustainable eatery at The Edinburgh Larder in the heart of the Old Town, on Blackfriars Street, with takeaway option Larder Go both based strongly on Slow Food principles.
They also hold foodie events including Slow Food film nights and events. Their style is informal and the food excellent. Popular with all ages, botanical drinks, real ales and artisan wines also play a part on the dining experience. The Larder works by forging strong relationships with small suppliers and utilizing the best of what they have available each week on their ever changing menu.
They deliver outside catering, providing meals for weddings and all occasions – buffets and canapés, sandwiches and their Food Truck. They are the team behind the Edinburgh Food Social, a social enterprise that aims to make local food more accessible in Scotland, working with schools and communities to develop cooking skills.
Eleanor Cunningham, owner of the Larder and founder of Edinburgh Food Social says using local produce “means there’s a real connection between the supplier and the food we serve. The producers in Scotland work incredibly hard to develop really fantastic ingredients which are at the core of everything we cook – we’d like more people to have the opportunity to use these ingredients.”
The Edinburgh Larder also offers Courses in their lovely venue next door to the café: pickling, fermentation, jam making. There is quite a range such as this one in May
