Karin, founder creator of Orkney Sourdough Co., is a very gifted Swedish baker in love with Orkney! A professional chef to trade, she has worked in hotels in Copenhagen and Zanzibar before settling in Orkney with her family. Her husband is diving for scallops off Kirkwall whilst Karin is creating masterpieces with dough in the kitchen!
Sweden has a well deserved reputation for excellent bread and Karin returned to her homeland last year to undertake a gastronomic immersion with some of its best artisan bakers, bringing her new found skills back home to Kirkwall.
Her bread – and now incredible Scandi/Orcadian sandwiches too brimming with local produce – are available in Shearers, Kirkwall, and she can be seen with her cool cycle (pictured with Eva Gunnare, Essense of Lapland, recently at Orkney Science Festival) out delivering breads.
