Rhubarb is the name of the restaurant at Prestonfield, the magnificent historic mansion that has been creatively and sensitively restored to its former glory by its owner James Thomson. A stunning mix of opulence and grandeur, it is undoubtedly the most glamorous hotel in town!  Set in its own grounds, with peacocks and Highland cattle, the whole experience is unforgettable – it is also on record for growing Scotland’s first rhubarb, until then an unknown plant. Prestonfield Rhubarb is on Slow Food’s Ark of Taste.

Prestonfield is fascinating and fabulous in equal measures. From the moment you are greeted at the door and shown to your table, whether you are arriving for a business breakfast or a romantic dinner, this is truly an exceptional place: the staff are superb and the food world class. The historic house has been sensitively and sensationally transformed into a luxurious hotel destination, where no attention to detail is spared and the interiors are breath-taking. You have to experience it to believe it.

When Les Dames d’Escoffier from USA and Canada were exploring Scotland with me, we had the most exquisite luncheon (pictured) and they were most entranced by the beauty of Prestonfield.

Prestonfield also hosts some spectacular events and has a venue in the grounds for larger extravaganzas. It is equally wonderful for an intimate wedding or occasion and has definitely hosted many a celebrity over the years – although they wouldn’t spill the beans!
