Just returned for an incredible trip to Orkney – this entry will be updated asap
An exceptional hotel with lots of character on the outskirts of Kirkwall adjacent to Highland Park Distillery. This family owned hotel offers graceful bedrooms furnished with beautiful antiques, complete with books on local history and a wonderful country house feeling throughout. The en suite bathrooms are top notch and stunningly contemporary.
There are several public rooms, all very inviting with attractive furninshings, a grand piano, whisky cabinets and the famous Orkney chairs in the hall. Evening dinner menus offer a host of local produce expertly cooked: from scallops to monkfish; beef to the famous North Ronaldsay lamb, and a delicious choice of desserts. Breakfasts are mouthwatering too with local butchers produce, a lovely buffet and a good range of options. A great place to stay when visiting Orkney and all it has to offer.
If you are going to visit these wonderful northern isles to taste the fabulous food and experience their warm hospitality you will need a ferry to get there! NorthLink Ferries will take you to Orkney and Shetland with regular timetables on their link.
Orkney is but a hop and Shetland is an overnight journey with lovely cabins I can vouch for personally. They make a good effort to use Scottish produce and some of the island products too. http://www.northlinkferries.co.uk
