Fergus Ewing MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy & Connectivity, visited Belhaven Smokehouse in February 2018 to officially open their new factory extension and view first-hand the achievements of this top notch family business.
Established over 40 years ago Belhaven has grown from strength to strength. Originally specialising in fish farming with added value to their produce by gutting, filleting and smoking trout they sold direct consumers. They diversified to smoking Shetland salmon, local white fish, meat and cheese and grown steadily. The new specially designed premises reflect the need to keep pace with FSS demands for quality and food safety controls, and their traceability is second to none.
This family business sources the finest seafood for consumers at Farmers’ Markets and their lovely farm shop, and to chefs for prime seafood on their menus. They also create a delicious range of home smoked and cured produce including their latest with Beetroot Gravadlax with North Berwick Gin.
They won Great Taste Awards for Roasted Smoked Salmon and Lemon and Pepper varieties and regularly wins awards from East Lothian for Best Local Produce. We should all consume at least one portion of oily fish each week – this is a very enjoyable way to meet that dietary target!
Belhaven Smokehouse accompanied us to a Food Festival in France and they absolutely loved his produce too. Here are the team along with some photos from their French travel!
