Whitmuir is an organic working farm growing seasonal produce and rearing Tamworth pigs, Shorthorn cattle and lamb. They have also planted an “edible and boozy hedge” – sounds like years of interesting tasting ahead!
They have a wonderful organic food hall with an incredible range in stock. This is so much more than a farm shop with excellent delicatessen and their own butchery. They have a very fine CHEESE COUNTER supporting local cheesemakers across Scotland.
They have a fantastic range of fruit and vegetables, their own hens, turkeys in season and frozen available for Easter – everything as low food miles as possible. Whitmuir has raw honey from their farm now too! It’s produced by Jim Lindsay, a local beekeeper, and comes from three hives near the orchard. There really is nothing like fresh raw honey – so make sure to get yours soon! You can find it on the online shop here. Check out their website for latest events too.
There is also a gallery exhibiting paintings, local crafts and an inspiring range of gifts. Whitmuir has devised their own Carbon Offset farm scheme and support Leadburn Community Woodland.
Their organic café is light and airy within the lovely building and great ‘green’ credentials. Serving local artisan produce, with delicious results.
This offers a one stop shop for all your food needs, just a short drive from Edinburgh. Click on their link to find out about their frequent events and great range of produce.
