The Woodside Hotel is a classic Victorian hotel. It was purchased Nov 2017 by the owners of the award-winning cafe in the village, McTaggarts, and now Lis and John are restoring the Woodside to its former glory, adding new innovations and live music venue that are proving very popular and adding to village life.
The Woodside offers visitors history and modernity; the famous Oscar Paterson stained glass ceiling in the Clipper Restaurant, combined with super fast wifi in all rooms and areas of the hotel – even offering residents discounted golf at Aberdour and Burntisland Golf Clubs if that’s your bag!
The Clipper Restaurant features the beautiful stained glass ceiling designed by Oscar Paterson. The ceiling was a key feature of the first class restaurant abord the Clyde built RMS Orontes, which sailed from the UK to Australia between 1902 and 1926. Orontes was scrapped at Inverkeithing and the then owner of the Woodside was so determined to save the ceiling that he arranged for the roof to be transported, lock, stock and barrel to Aberdour. Oscar Paterson was a contemporary of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the influence is clear. The Clipper is a fantastic place to eat and we welcome groups for private dining.
The Clipper is quite stunning – indeed a couple whose family had traveled out on the Orontes made the trip to Aberdour specially to see it and were not disappointed! There is a great range of tasty dishes on the menu for lunches and dinners.
The conservation village of Aberdour is steeped in character: from its award-winning station, blue flag beaches, pretty architecture and range of independent shops and galleries, easy access to Edinburgh and beyond, it is the perfect base for visiting the Kingdom of Fife. Its castle has the best preserved round doocot (an ancient place for pigeons!) and was even used for Outlander!!
