Barony Mill Tours

We are delighted to announce that the Barony Mill will soon be re-opening for the summer.

From Monday 29 April, Barony Mill will be open to the public offering guided tours of Orkney’s only remaining working water mill. The tours are a chance for visitors to learn more about the history of bere and the traditional methods we use to milling our flour.

The Barony Mill will be open for tours seven days a week from 11am until the last tour at 4.15pm. Tours last approximately 30 minutes and are suitable for all ages, but please be advised you will need to climb some stairs to reach the upper floors. Tours cost £5 for adults, with children admitted for free.

We also have a shop onsite where we sell beremeal flour and products made with beremeal, as well as other souvenirs. Orkney Bere is on Slow Food International Ark of Taste and is absolutely delicious, available from the shop as flour, flakes & bere berries.

Visitors can drop in if they are passing, but we do recommend you book a place on a tour to avoid disappointment. You can book a tour by telephoning the Mill on (01856) 721 439, or at the Mill shop.

We hope to see you over the summer!
