At the farm, lambing is well under way now, with around two thirds of the ewes lambed and plenty going on in the sheds. It has been a busy week, with new arrivals each day, and we are expecting another lively spell over the weekend with the full moon. There are still a few places left on our lambing tours if you would like to come and see for yourself.
We’ve just restocked our meat fridge with our own varieties of sausages (farmhouse; fennel, chilli & garlic; chorizo piccante) and air-dried smoked back bacon – all made from our own Tamworth x Black pigs, fed on whey from the cheese-making process. If you haven’t tried them yet, you must! Pick up some local eggs when you visit and you have the perfect weekend breakfast…
The Takeaway Shed isn’t open at the moment, but takeaway drinks and food are still available from the café if you fancy a walk on the woodland trails followed by something warm – even if wellies are required!
I’m looking forward to our first Cheese Club on Thursday 5 February. Florence will be leading the evening, and has chosen a really lovely selection of blue cheeses for the tasting. Click here to see her talking about it. I’ll be in the kitchen making a seasonal dish if you fancy staying on for some food afterwards.
FEBRUARY HALF-TERM
Join us at Errington’s Barn during the February half-term holidays for a programme of guided children’s activities inspired by food, farming, nature and the changing seasons.
Designed for children aged 5–11, each day includes a morning indoor session (10.30am–12pm) and an afternoon outdoor activity (1pm–2.30pm), from baking and simple cheesemaking to woodland adventures and nature crafts. Sessions run on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 February.
Activities can be booked individually (£7.50 per session) or as a full day (£20 including the child’s lunch). Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times; parents attend free and receive a complimentary hot drink from the café.
