Congratulations to The Ethical Dairy –
Fleet Valley Blue has been awarded a Silver Medal at the British & Irish Cheese Awards . For our cheesemakers, it’s the culmination of several years of quiet determination to keep improving this particular cheese.
Fleet Valley Blue has always been delicious, but Kevin, our head cheesemaker, wanted to make it even better. So, the team have made some small but significant adjustments to the production process, including how the cheese is salted and how it’s cared for in the maturing room.
The result is a sweet, complex blue that the team are especially proud of right now, and it means a great deal to have that recognised by the judges at one of the UK’s most prestigious cheese competitions.
To celebrate, we’re offering 20% off 500g wedges of Fleet Valley Blue throughout April, available from our website (or until stocks run low).

Other Cheese News
The 150g wedges of Cheddar we introduced over Christmas have proven really popular, so we’re introducing this size of wedge on our website across most of our range.
Smaller wedges of Fleet Valley Blue, Laganory, Carrick and Rainton Tomme will all be available to order later this week. Until now these have only been available directly from us in mixed bundles, so this will be ideal for anyone who wants smaller pack sizes of their favourite cheeses.
We also have some welcome news on the production side. After working through some engineering challenges with our pasteuriser, we’re back up and running. Barlocco Blue is first into production, and we’re planning to make Garnie on 20 April for delivery from 22 April. We expect to open pre-orders for Garnie after the Easter weekend.

Film Update
We’re delighted to share that Compassion in World Farming has become an Official Partner of A Dairy Story, the documentary about our farm. Compassion has long been at the forefront of the campaign for higher welfare in farming; indeed it was founded in 1967 by dairy farmers who had become alarmed by the intensification of the industry.
In announcing their backing of the film, Anthony Field, Head of Compassion in World Farming UK, said: “We were founded nearly sixty years ago by Peter and Anna Roberts, dairy farmers who could no longer ignore the harms caused by the rapid intensification of the industry they loved.
“Supporting A Dairy Story feels especially fitting for us, because it shines a light on farmers who are once again challenging the status quo and proving that a more sustainable and compassionate model is possible. Rainton Farm’s cow-with-calf system shows the kind of ingenuity and courage our founders championed, and we’re proud to help bring their story to audiences across the world.”
