September News from The Ethical Dairy
Cheese Update
First up is a new cheese, Mature Fleet Valley Blue, which was completely unplanned. Our cheese team tried a new blue culture on a batch of Fleet Valley Blue and the cheese raced ahead of itself, maturing far faster than expected. It’s turned out beautiful but stronger than normal, and it’s ready to leave the cheese store now rather than later, so we’re offering it at 20% off our usual Fleet Valley Blue price, while it lasts.
Garnie, our fresh grilling cheese, is being made on Monday for despatch next week. This might be the last batch of the year, so if Garnie is a cheese you love, now’s the moment to stock up.
Forres Belle is back too. We trialled this limited-edition cheese last year and we’re delighted to see it returning. And there’s been a small restock of Smoked Rainton Tomme, with a batch freshly back from the smokehouse.

A Dairy Story screenings
David has come back from the August screenings of A Dairy Story encouraged, not just because they’ve been well attended, but because of the conversations that are taking place around the film.
The Q&As have been enthusiastic and engaged, and attending these events has also given David the opportunity to meet with several of the UK’s other cow-with-calf dairy farmers, including Jon Cook from Dora’s Dairy and Sam Bullingham from Taw River Dairy. The photo above shows David with Ed Ayton of Abel & Cole and Dr Sean Wensley of Compassion in World Farming, who both joined the Bath Q&A panel alongside Jon Cook.
There are plenty more chances to join those conversations this autumn. David will be taking part in the Q&As at London, Keswick and Alnwick
Tomorrow, Wednesday 9th September, the film is screening at The Poly in Falmouth, on Saturday 12th Sep it will be in Nottingham and on Sunday 13th Sep in Letchworth.
The full list of bookable screenings, with new dates added as they’re confirmed, is on the A Dairy Story website.
