Christmas Cheese

This wet and wild weather is the perfect excuse for a newsletter and an update on all things cheese and cow & calf related. First up, the cheese!

At this time of year, we give a lot of thought to planning ahead for Christmas, the busiest time of year for artisan cheesemakers. For us, it means carefully planning production as well as despatch, because we need to time the making of Bluebell batches so that the cheeses are at their very best over the festive season.

This means we make Bluebell available for pre-order for December deliveries well before we actually make the cheese. The benefit of doing it this way is that you can order ahead and we can predict demand, which is important for a cheese that can be quite tricky to get just right.

That’s a long way of saying that pre-ordering for Christmas delivery is now open, and that if you are able to place your Christmas Bluebell orders before mid-November, that would be very much appreciated. All the cheeses we will have available in December are on the website now and can be pre-ordered.

Our final deliveries of the year will take place during the week beginning 14th December. That means our final order deadline is likely to be the evening of Saturday 12th December. However, that may change if delivery slots fill up. Anything ordered from Sunday 13th December onwards will be despatched in the new year.

And if you want to order for delivery soon, the order deadline for delivery this coming week is 8am on Monday.

The last of Dhoon till spring

Thank you for your kind words about our newest cheese, Dhoon. We only have a small amount of this remaining in the store, and it seems to be tasting even better as it matures. We have already made another batch, but it won’t be ready until March, so if you’d like Dhoon for Christmas, we’d suggest placing an order soon.

Silver for Carrick & Rainton Tomme

We decided to enter a few cheese awards this year and seem to have hit quite a streak of silver medals! This time it’s the turn of Carrick and Rainton Tomme, which have both won silver at this year’s Great British Food Awards. As much as we enjoy introducing new cheeses, we also know how much effort our cheesemakers have put into perfecting the making of our core cheeses over the past couple of years, and we are delighted to see more recognition for their work.
