Visit Fife’s only farmhouse cheesemakers. There’s a glass wall to watch the action and Jane’s cheeses are a delicious asset to this lovely region. Her excellent hand crafted cheeses have won many awards. It is very much a family business with husband and sons running the farm and Jane the skilled cheesemaker.
The cafe is currently in hibernation – look out for latest developments on their website link…exciting times ahead. Her cheeses are available in local farm shops and on a good range of excellent cheese counters. She also regularly attends local farmers’ markets at Cupar & Bowhouse.

The Scottish Women’s Awards 2018 aim to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of women entrepreneurs, business women, professionals, civil servants, women in uniform, charity workers and many more that make Scotland a greater place to live in. St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company is one of the finalists in the Food and Drink Entrepreneur category.

“2018 has been an exciting year so far for St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company – we are celebrating 10 years since we first began to make cheese here on the family farm in Fife, and whilst the hard work continues, it has been a real thrill to have won Best British Territorial Cheese at Melton Mowbray in May; Best Dairy Product, and also Runner up Best Scottish Product at the Scotland Food and Drink Awards in June; and now to be nominated in the Scottish Women’s Awards. We are proud to be contributing to the growing reputation for food and drink that Scotland in general – and Fife in particular – now has to offer.
“The Stewart family has farmed at Falside for over 50 years and the dairy has always been central to the business. As nobody else in Fife is making cheese from their own milk on farm; there seemed to be public demand for, and interest in, locally produced food; and last, but not least, we love cheese – in January 2008, our first cheese was born.”
Award-winning ‘Anster’ cheese is hand-made on the farm – to a traditional recipe – by Jane Stewart, using unpasteurized milk from her husband Robert’s herd of home-bred Holstein Friesian cows. This new cheese is fresh and dry, with an almost crumbly texture that dissolves in the mouth to leave a full-flavoured finish. Her other fine cheeses include Red Anster and St Andrews Farmhouse Cheddar.
