Profile
A charming place to tarry awhile, featuring beautiful landscaped gardens, an excellent range of crafts and a lovely coffee shop, brimming with Banff produce. It is a beautifully converted old schoolhouse and a really friendly cheery place. Their extensive garden centre is also very popular.
The Boyndie Trust Old School Visitor Centre & Coffee Shop now also has a Training Kitchen to deliver their Confidence to Cook programme & various other activities. Initially this is aimed at young Mums/families in the community.
The Coffee Shop is a light airy venue with home baking, their famous Cullen Skink plus daily specials, hot dishes, popular home made pies, salads and light bites. Many handicrafts are made on site providing excellent local employment and are very popular indeed – quite a handicraft village within, with toys and knitwear, seasonal treats and books – indeed they stock Wendy & Bosse’s book “Meadows:The Swedish Farmer & The Scottish Cook” too!
The six acres of lovely woodland, ponds and play areas provide a grand day out and there is also al fresco seating, sheltered from showers, providing outdoor places to enjoy the cafe food too. Call / click on link to check opening times.
The Trust also runs learning programmes and the delicious dishes are made under the watchful eyes of the catering team – they do a fantastic and worthwhile job providing employment, skills and a strong sense of community.
A fabulous new addition is a recognised Training Kitchen, a joint initiative led by Boyndie with partners, NHS Grampian, Aberdeenshire Council and a lovely wee charity named Acorns 2 Trees. Boyndie Restaurant Manager and Deputy (Rachael & Julie) have undertaken training with NHS to deliver their Confidence to Cook programme (C2C) plus various other activities. Initially this is aimed at young Mums/families in answer to very poor local stats for pre-school age child nutrition. It allows them to show people how to cook in a more domestic environment, instead of using the catering-grade cooker, big mixers, etc in the main kitchen.
When not in use for this course, the facility will be used as an assembly area for the fancy bits on their blossoming Afternoon Tea trade, both sit-in and takeaway. This also allows a variety of young people explore their artistic and culinary abilities. Its can be used as a recreation space for peer support conversations over a drink and a fine piece!
Boyndie really creates, contributes and enhances life in this lovely region of Scotland.
