Profile
Welcome to new Scottish Food Guide member Peel Farm, a working family farm with imaginative diversifications that will keep you entertained all day – and even to stay longer.
The Flemings are onto the third generation of this Angus farming family. They started off serving afternoon teas and selling local crafts from the farmhouse’s small sun parlour. Claire is the next generation, running all the elements of farm life in addition to their super cafe and shop. Certainly a case of acorns becoming mighty oaks, Peel Farm is a real asset to Angus.

Recently Peel Farm collaborated with nearby Potato House to bring together local heritage potatoes with the local eatery and created an imaginative and delicious tableau of tattie inspired recipes as seen in the photos. Their enthusiasm and dedication to customer service ensured everyone had a grand day out.
Their super Coffee Shop serves homemade dishes using local produce (often with their own beef): from regular favourites to daily specials with a great range of baking too. With a sunny glazed room overlooking the countryside, pretty outdoor seating and a cosy fire for wintry days, they have you covered. Service dogs are welcome in the coffee shop. All other dogs on a lead are welcome in the summerhouse seating and al fresco areas. Peel Farm will also cater for your events – from nuptials to sheep dog trials and everything in between.
The Peel Farm Nature Trail is as educational as it is enjoyable, with wildlife to spot (songbirds, butterflies, wildflowers and many different invertebrates), and rural viewpoints overlooking the beautiful River Isla waterfall to pause awhile. Dogs welcome on lead only. The perfect place for all the family to explore before or after lunch at the cafe.
Along the trail you can also see close up a diverse range of farm animals: miniature donkeys and pygmy goats; Spot, Jasmine, Mary and Buttercup, the Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs, the cheeky Kune Kune pig, Maurice, cows, horses and their herd of red deer, the largest native deer species in Scotland. There is even an old mill-pond, a little haven for ducks and geese – you can feed them from the bags of their favourite food on sale in The Courtyard.
Throughout The Courtyard are opportunities to buy a great range of local produce, farm meats and lovely gifts – to take home or to make up a tray of goodies for an evening feast in one of the Glamping Pods or Holiday Cottages available to rent for a totally rural getaway. More details on the website link.
Where to find it: At the foot of picturesque Glenisla, just a mile away from the small village of Lintrathen. The town of Kirriemuir, famous as the birthplace of JM Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, is just 10 miles away.
