Profile
GreenCity Wholefoods is a workers co-operative, based in Glasgow’s vibrant east end, supplying Scotland, delivering over 5,000 vegetarian, vegan, organic, non-organic, gluten free options, a vast selection of artisan products and GM free wholefoods: grains and breads; grocery items; herbs and spices, nuts and seeds.
It is democratically run by members, meaning all the staff (and there’s over 50 of them) have a say and a vote in how they conduct our business – and a super friendly bunch they are too. They carry out their business with fairness and respect and champion co-operative working as a successful alternative business model. Rebranded and full of exciting gluten free, organic ideas for retails and catering. Trading since 1978, everything is ethically sourced.
Such an enthusiastic and helpful team, highly recommended – a one stop store cupboard shop. Here they are at Scothot and some of their produce at Loch Arthur Farm Shop. They are a supplier to the award-winning East Ayrshire’s Food for Life schools and also supply many excellent cafes and restaurants, such as Hendersons.
You can spot their distinctive own-branding in delis, farm shops and restaurant kitchens across Scotland and they are an ethical brand you can trust. They also distribute a comprehensive range of branded items such as Scotland The Bread wholemeal flour and Orkney beremeal.
Check out the wonderful new mural (May 2024) on their Dennistoun premises. “Incorporated within the giant artwork is a wealth of symbology to represent the collective ethos, essence, feelings and characteristics of Greencity Wholefoods.”
