Profile
This fairytale castellated country house sits in 28acres of stunning woodland, gardens and landscapes – the perfect gourmet base to explore the South of Scotland, yet within a stone’s throw of Edinburgh – sufficiently close to take a city excursion if you wish before returning for a romantic meal. South of Scotland has so much to offer on its doorstep, ‘Edinburghers’ too can treat themselves to a night away and explore undiscovered parts of Scotland. With new owners in residence (2019) Cringletie is entering a new chapter, building on its fine reputation and looking to a bright future. Check out their fabulous Castle Escape Staycations, fresh-air picnics and afternoon teas too on their website link.
Head Chef, Iain Gourlay, won a Silver Award in the Lamb category of the 2021 annual International Salon Culinaire competition & a finalist of the National Chef of the Year 2021. Using locally produced Tweed Valley lamb, Iain created a rack of lamb with lamb neck bonbons accompanied by stuffed breast of lamb with artichoke and pistachio. It’s going on the menu! Now Food Ambassador for the South of Scotland Iain is Finalist for 2022 too.
Cringletie offers style and personal attention in historic surroundings complete with all modern luxuries. This is a stunning place to visit, dine and stay, and indeed has even appeared in a movie or two!
Awarded 2 AA Rosettes, one of only two restaurants in the Scottish Borders with this accolade. The ever-popular Cringletie Sunday lunches are personally carved at your table: always with a choice of two roasts, plus other menu specials, we opted for the prime roast of Scottish beef with all the trimmings, skilfully cooked and thoroughly enjoyed! Our starters of Trio of Salmon and Nori Wrapped Duck Terrine were also a great success. We only managed one dessert between us however somehow I managed to find room for a tasty petit four!
Working with fresh produce, increasingly grown in the hotel’s walled garden, Cringletie focusses on locally available, quality ingredients to produce well presented dishes where taste and flavour are paramount. Their knowledge and range of wines is exceptional, the dining room ambience delightful and there are beautiful drawing rooms and cocktail/whisky bar to withdraw to with your coffee.
They will arrange all you require for a wonderfully romantic wedding or celebration, indeed wedding parties can even have exclusive use if they wish. Cringletie can proudly take its place alongside the finest in Britain.
Beautiful self-catering cottage also available for holiday breaks.
