Heading southwards on the A73 – so pleasant to avoid motorways – you will find Carmichael Estate Farm Shop and can pause for a delicious meal at their Hideaway Restaurant, launched this year. The restaurant has a popular light lunch menu and an a la carte dinner menu, featuring seafood as well as the top notch estate produce.
The Carmichael family have been farming these lands for 700 years and today the current Clan Chief and his family continue these traditions, producing their own fine Single Estate beef, lamb and venison, from rearing to processing, assuring complete traceability and low food miles. They are particularly famous for their exclusive venison.
Several of the historic estate cottages (one pictured) have also been beautifully renovated for holiday lets – with their fabulous farm shop and restaurant on your doorstep you don’t have far to go for gourmet meals and the surrounding countryside is truly beautiful.
As Clan Carmichael HQ there is also a fascinating exhibition and lovely range of gifts with Carmichael tartan items, plus news of their Clan Gatherings. They have an excellent range of produce in their farm shop, supporting many local producers from honeys and jams to eggs and oatcakes, plus, naturally, their wonderful range of ethical high quality beef, lamb and venison. Look out for their stall at farmers’ markets too.
