Profile
Real fruit wines hand made in Perthshire. This fabulously quirky and absolutely inspired winery has been established in 1987 when founders Ron and Judith Gillies ‘first started the winery with a bottle, a book and a stick, then before they knew it they had a big winery and everything!’
Their fruit wines are all made in the traditional and proper way of fermentation followed by at least a year of maturation. This gives their wines real vinosity and smooth well developed flavours. Their core range is Strawberry, Raspberry, Bramble, Elderberry and Oak Leaf, Sparkling Oak & Elder and Sparkling Strawberry. Thanks to local farmers and seasonal notions, their inventions never cease to amaze and delight tastebuds. Carse of Gowrie is famous for its apple growing so Cider is also on the list, bottled and on draft. There is also a range of non alcoholic drinks – sparkling elderflower and elderberry.
The Winery itself is an eclectic mix of buildings and a delightful place to visit. Tours are available from April to October, plus experience wines and tasty treats from the onsite cafe, The Pickled Peacock.
Available in many discerning independent stores including Craigie’s Farm Shop outside Edinburgh and Carmichael Estate Farm Shop in Lanarkshire.
There is also a Wine Club and lots happening so never a dull moment at Cairn O’Mhor!
