Profile
Monachyle Mhor has a memorable elevated lochside location with exceptional food and a roaring log fire, the ‘mothership’ of Mhor and well worth seeking out.
Mhor is renowned across Europe and beyond for its award-winning restaurant and gifted chef proprietor Tom Lewis. Originally a hill sheep farm, Tom’s trail-blazing mother was first in the kitchen running their beautiful guesthouse whilst his dad was farming the land (environmentally and sustainably before such words were in common circulation), with Tom learning food production, preparation and cooking from childhood with many happy memories along the way. With Tom, his wife, his brother and family, and his dear dad all involved, this is truly a family business, and real destination dining, up a single lane road near Rob Roy’s (reputed) grave. The charming rambling farmhouse is a gentle shade of pink and has been considerably extended to create elegant individually designed luxury accommodation.
Mhor to your Door is a quirky converted trailer-come-restaurant that can become your venue on a moor, by a loch or wherever your imagination takes you – subject to access of course! Another great innovation from Tom and his team.
Seeking the best bread for his restaurant, Tom opened the fabulous Mhor Bread in Callander …along with his informal award-winning dining experience along the way, Mhor 84. Next to Mhor 84 is their imaginative homeware store Mhor In Store

Tom offers Gastronomy Experiences: sharing expertise in specialist private events at Monachyle. Followed by a private Wine Safari, there really is no better way to mark a special occasion and celebrate. It is also a popular and magical wedding venue.
They have also created several one-off rural escapes: In The Trees, Tiny House and the Cabin to choose from, out in nature on the estate.
Tom is inspirational, both in his own kitchen and when inspiring others. With his award-winning bakehouse in Callander, Mhor 84 and is the working farm with estate reared venison, sheep, cattle, pigs and hens, everyone involved. Tom Lewis is highly regarded for his skills and passion for the best sourced produce, and his accolades well deserved.
When I brought a group of food writers from Colorado, they were blown away, both by the quality of the dining experience and the wonderful warm welcome they received from Tom and his wife Lisa May.
