Profile
The Orkney Wine Company has the most incredible location next to the world famous Italian Chapel (pictured) on the tiny Island of Lamb Holm – but never fear, it is linked by causeways so you don’t need another ferry to visit!
This family business creates and bottles all their produce on Orkney – sulphur free, vegan friendly, fruit wine and liqueurs the classic way, using 100% natural ingredients. They forage many of the fruits and ingredients resulting in a range of flavours to feast your eyes and taste buds. I can also highly recommend their Larboard, vintage elderberry port-style creation. “The larboard name comes from the 16th century term for the port side of a ship. Larboard or loading side was eventually replaced with port as it was often confused with starboard.”
Every time I visit there are different liqueurs and fruit wines – deliciously seasonal and inspiring. Creative and sustainable and the perfect gift or taste memories from the Orkney Isles. Their shop is beautifully laid out with additional crafts from the isles and lovely gift sets including their produce.
J. Gow Rum is made next door, on the island, where you can book a rum tasting tour – see separate entry.
