Profile
The first bakery opened in 1892 and now is fourth generation (known locally as Broons o’ Westray I am told!) creating and distributing high quality bakes across the islands and beyond, using original recipes with a sprinkling of new ones. Their wholesale bakery has just expanded but still on Westray a stone throw from the original premises by the pier.
Their delicious range includes Abernethy Biscuits, Shortbreads, Water Biscuits, Bere Biscuits (using the ancient six row barley grown only on Orkney and on Slow Food Ark of Taste).
Look out for their biscuits at good delis and of course on Orkney Mainland but should you be visiting Orkney, Westray is well worth a visit via the short picturesque ferry crossing. It is also home to a lovely castle and a great cheesemaker – See Wilsons of Westray entry.
