Profile
Named in Top 10 best fine dining restaurants in UK 2022. Head Chef Peter McKenna is as inspiring as he is gifted, creating constantly changing multi-course menus using painstakingly sourced high quality produce. Here at The Gannet, food is sourced from Peter’s network of foragers and farmers, producers and gatherers, herders and hunters.
For 2024, The Gannet is moving from tasting menus to a more relaxed and accessible form of dining, where one can select a lobster feast or a bowl of wild garlic soup – with a myriad of other carefully sourced and skilfully executed menu dishes also on offer. There will be no compromise in quality but an attractive change in style.
Peter says, [in Glasgow World] “We will continue to have good value set menu for lunches and early evenings. But what I want is a comprehensive, a la carte menu individually priced.”
With no such thing as a typical menu at The Gannet, dishes can range from squid ink, onion & ramson, line caught mackerel with seaweed & horseradish to Herdwick hogget with asparagus & wild garlic… and only ever when in season. Indeed Peter names his dedicated suppliers on their website, supporting many exceptional Scottish producers. We experienced the best dish of west coast oysters I’ve ever had, mutton from Peelham, jersey butter from the Borders, sustainable fish and single origin chocolate dessert.
Over the years The Gannet has been awarded many fabulous reviews and accolades including…
CIS newcomer of the year, The List best newcomer alongside positive reviews in The Guardian and the Herald.
2019 Winner of Scottish fine dining restaurant of the year from SLTN.
Scottish Restaurant Of The Year 2015 / 16 by the AA Guide and earned a well respected 3 AA Rosettes in the 2016 guide they have continued to maintain.
Reviews and features in The Telegraph, The Sunday Herald, The Scotsman & Conde Nast .
The Michelin Guide awarded the restaurant a Bib Gourmand 2014 – 2018 and currently feature with the Michelin Plate.
The Gannet is situated in the Finnieston neighbourhood of Glasgow, and was originally founded in September 2013 by three friends Ivan Stein, now moved on in 2024, Peter Read and Peter McKenna, with Kevin Dow joining them in 2014.
